Another $upra-Rerelease: PUCH – Sense

it’s time for another rerelease on $upra Recordings: this time it’s the second official longplayer by PUCH ,named ‘Sense‘.

‘Sense‘ was produced & recorded between 2002-2003 – compared to our first selftitled lonplayer ,’Sense‘ is a far more melancholic and also more songoriented album.
it combines styles like downtempo/triphop with classic pop and aswell lounge flavours and has a slight indietouch through spices like glitch, dub & illbient.

I first give you three tracks for a small listening impression:

1.) Son Of Schiwago

Featuring the magnificent vocals of Cara McQueen this song has somehow slightly atmospheric & cinematic vibes.

2.) Cover Me With Joy

we can’t deny a little ‘Air’-influence on this one – a worn-out and crunchy dopebeat carries a symphonic organ thru a classic composition featuring the vocals of myself.

3.) Blue Corazón
——————
blue is the keyword here for the overall mood – a deep & melancholic jazzed-up song featuring cara’s outstanding voice again.

I hope these impressions give you a nice view on the overall sad vibes of ‘Sense‘ – tho ‘Sense‘ has way more tracks with vocals, there are some instrumental tunes (f.e. ‘Days Gone’, ‘Big Noise’) aswell.

A very special nu tiny little $upra Release!!

back on track with a very, very special $upra Release!

why special? coz this release is the theme from the beautiful shortfilm ‘Rubber Soul‘ directed by outstanding filmmaker, photographer and good friend Lennart Selle.

‘Rubber Soul’ is a shortfilm about the young little boy Jonas (starring Maik Wittlif), music-lover & on the cusp of puberty, who takes a look out of the box of his sheltered existence and discovers the quite different social and musical world of the neighbor girl Helen (starring Friederike Wolf).
He notes that a new phase of life is about to begin and it friggin’ creeps him out, sometimes…

while the film captures the recipient already from the first seconds with smooth and gentle pictures, cuts and camera-rides, it has also a perfect matching soundtrack featuring the sweet sonic music of Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti and a tune created by Allen N. Restle & myself, featuring the gorgeous vocals of PUCH‘s leadsinger Cara McQueen.
this tune named ‘Helen’s Theme‘ appears when the recipient & Jonas discover Helen for the first time.

while the whole film is spiked with 80′s nostalgia, the whole soundtrack of ‘Rubber Soul’ completes this feel.
‘Rubber Soul‘ was nominated for the ‘Goldener Reiter’ in the categories ‘Best national Film‘ and also for the best soundtrack as the only german shortfilm on the filmfestival in Dresden.

‘Rubber Soul‘ is a must-see-shortmovie! unfortunately it is not available online for now, but if you are curious about the film, take a peek at the sweet making-of, made by Daniel Gerlich:

because of the huge positive feedback on the soundtrack Lennart & I decided to release ‘Helen’s Theme‘ as a digital single on $upra Recordings.

A very special X-Mas Re-Release!!

Ho Ho Ho – I’ve got a very special re-release on $upra Recordings for Xmas – it’s nothing less than the very first lonplayer from ‘PUCH‘!

exactly 10 years ago in the beginning of 2001 cara mcqueen, dub mars & me founded our downtempo outlet ‘PUCH’, named after an old austrian moped-brand.

it was clear from our very first sessions on, that we all have a deep passion for the trippy, melancholic, chilled, & sometimes even the jazzy, loungie and funky-side of downbeat. inspired by acts like massive attack, tricky, portishead, björk, leftfield, etc we started to work on our very first tunes.

our output was vast and so we already finished our first sametitled longplayer in the end of 2001.
after releasing it in a small edition only on cd-r from 01-05 we decided to put it all back on for sale as a special xmas-birthday-doublefeature.

and guess what? we’re also giving away three tunes (for low, memories, broken dub) for free – how friggin’ awesome is that!?

Oldie of the month

kicking in with another oldie of the month – this time it’s an older tune from me and dub mars’ sleepy sideproject ‘PUCH’.

this track named ‘whatelse is wrong’ is taken from our 2002 album ‘Sense’ (read & listen more HERE).

it’s a slightly mad, deep & twisted downtempo/triphop/illbient tune with lots of dub & jazz flavours carried on breakie beats and funky basslines.

Another L.O.S.T. tune

do you remember when I first told you about the parallel universe of L.O.S.T. tunes which is hidden inside my mp3-abyssum?
this morning I somehow had access to this parallel universe again and found a very very rare live-recording of my dead band ‘Suprafutur’.

this song named ‘Lone Star’ must’ve been one of our very late works somewhere around 99/2000 – most of it was recorded during a session in our practiceroom-vault and got later arranged and flavoured with lofi-indietronic by myself.

this tune was one of our very early lofi-indietronic experiments, inspired by bands & acts like the notwist and locust fudge and has also got the owl-spirit init.

CAUTION: don’t expect hifi-sound here – trashed speakersound ftw!

New PUCH Albumrelease on $upra-Recordings!!!

it´s been 1 year ago since the latest release on my little mp3-label $upra-Recordings – and it´s already 3 years ago since the latest PUCH albumrelease ‘Selected Pieces’ – thank god here comes the new PUCH album ‘Welcome To Our Madhouse’, exclusive on $upra-Recordings.

PUCH consists of dub mars, cara mcqueen and myself (on photo from left to right).

Our debutalbum ‘Selected Pieces’ (released in 2007) was a kind of compilation from our three unofficially released longplayers, selected by our former label ‘Jubilee-Records’.
The overall sound was a mixture of lounge & chilled downtempo stuff.

‘Welcome To Our Madhouse’ has changed this overall loungie mood into some kind of dark pop with downtempo/trip hop flavours. It´s also not easy listening anymore – the atmosphere is melancholic & broken, sometimes eerie and the lyrics picture our inner selves, scarred, used and washed out.
‘wtom’ features 13 songs between pleasure, pain, wasted emotions and heartbreaking memories.

we give away two songs of our new album for free in full 320kbit quality – here they come:

first song named ‘still’ revolves around the subject of being absolutely lonely – wonderfully sung by our chanteuse cara. enjoy the track!

yes, it´s true: here are again two PUCH songs for you for free download.
these tunes are from our third inofficial release from 2003/04 named ‘OZ’ – it´s by far our most melancholic & elegic album and fits perfectly into the upcoming fall/winter season.

but let´s start with the most unmelancholic tune from ‘OZ’:
the track is titled ‘playground’ and captures images of childhood, easiness, love, eternity, trust & faith.
stylistic it´s somewhere between lounge, dopebeats & dub.

the second tune we´ve got for you is the complete opposite of ‘playground’.
dark, deep, soulful & spiked with pain this song named ‘withOut’ creeps thru a lynch-esque atmosphere featuring the desperate lamenting lyrics & beautiful broken voice of our singer Cara.
stylistic ‘withOut’ can be filed under downtempo/triphop.
